A popular travel destination known for its extraordinary biodiversity and stunning beauty, Costa Rica is also facing growing threats to this diversity and an increase in animal endangerment, which the government has responded to by enacting tough animal protection laws and comprehensive land conservation strategies. This trip offers volunteers the opportunity to engage safely with Costa Rica’s animal residents living at an animal sanctuary. Participants chip in at the sanctuary in a variety of ways: feeding and bathing the animals, playing and exercising with them, and cleaning and maintaining the sanctuary garden. The primary objective of the animal sanctuary is to rescue, rehabilitate, and ultimately release the injured animals back to their natural habitats, ensuring the welfare of the animals and helping them recover from their physical and psychological wounds. Participants also get the chance to visit Isla Tortuga Beach, try some of the country’s famed coffee, visit La Fortuna Hot Springs, and more.
This trip is 7 days and costs $1,347. Globe Aware is a nonprofit organization that offers international volunteer programs that go beyond tourism. Globe Aware programs promote the immersion of participants in a unique way that also aligns with the United Nations sustainability goals. Volunteers get the chance to experience cultural awareness: acknowledging and celebrating the culture of a community, but not changing it. Participants will also work alongside the host community and help teach and learn skills with the concept of promoting sustainable practices.
