The Katla Ice Cave:
This is a unique, year-round, natural ice cave located on the Kötlujökull glacier, an outlet of the Mýrdalsjökull glacier near Vík on Iceland's South Coast. It’s famous for its striking blue ice mixed with black volcanic ash from the active Katla volcano. It’s definitely a challenging yet rewarding endeavor for visitors who want adventure and to become close with Iceland’s natural world. Access often requires a guided Super Jeep tour due to challenging terrain and changing conditions. The tour includes all the necessary gear along with the guide to take you through this three hour experience. The hike is suitable for beginners with an average fitness level.
Skydiving:
Every year in Iceland, in collaboration with Skydive EHF & Icelandic Parachute Association (IPA), there is an Iceland Boogie! This event is where visitors are able to skydive during certain times of the year when it is safe to do so. In 2026 the dates are August 9th -15th, with a special solar eclipse jumping on August 12th. All solo skydive participants who jump this event must sign up for membership in the Icelandic Skydiving Association. The company picks you up in Reykjavik and returns you there at the end. This is an all inclusive event, including transport, a HALO jump, food, hotel, innhopp jumps, Eclipse jump and swag. Alcohol & HALO equipment rental is not included. This experience does require a few things including a B-License qualification, your own flotation device (PFD), the rig must have an AAD, and minimum jumps of 150. Family and friends are welcome who want to join the experience but do not wish to jump.
Solheimajokull Glacier:
Solheimajokull is an outlet glacier of the mighty icecap of Myrdalsjokull on the South Coast of Iceland. It's known for its blue ice formations and streaks of volcanic ash. It's one of the most easily accessible glaciers to reach from Reykjavík but still a bit of a journey, about 2-3 hours to get there. Solheimajokull is also a highlight of many guided glacier tours, where you can safely explore crevasses and learn how these icy formations evolve. Adventurers can explore this glacier at different levels: whether it's enjoying short walks to the glacier viewpoint, joining guided glacier hikes, or simply taking photos of the ice formations and ash layers.
Water Rafting:
Iceland has so many beautiful bodies of water and visitors often like to take a ride on them! White Water Rafting is a very intense kind of exhilarating outdoor sport where teams navigate fast-flowing, turbulent rivers, using large, durable inflatable rafts. Participants work in unison with paddles, guided by an expert. This is a very popular tourist activity in Iceland that gets one up close and personal with nature along with a rush of adrenaline for those true adventure travelers.
Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon:
Another fun and active way to engage with Iceland’s gorgeous waters is visiting the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. There are many ways to interact with this lake such as kayaking up through it and up to glacial wonders as well as boat tours for those who want to sit back and put all their attention on the surroundings. Kayaking around Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon more specifically is a great experience as it serves as a giant glacial lake with large icebergs and hoards of seals! The lake borders Vatnajökull National Park in southeastern Iceland and provides views of the surrounding Breiðamerkurjökull Glacier, a part of larger Vatnajökull Glacier.
