Travelers begin in San Salvador, El Salvador’s capital city, known for the volcanoes it’s nestled in, its gleaming Metropolitan Cathedral, and the traditional Salvadoran food found around every corner. The group will explore the city before heading to the Cerro Verde National Park. The hike up Santa Ana Volcano, El Salvador’s tallest volcano, will reveal views of a vast forested landscape and the bright turquoise sulfuric lagoon at its summit. Continuing on, travelers will journey through la Ruta de las Flores, or the Flower Route, which will bring them past coffee plantations, wildflower fields, and waterfalls cascading on the sides of volcanoes.
They’ll stop to rest in the picturesque town of Apaneca, where they’ll also enjoy a cooking class in making traditional pupusas, corn flour flatbread stuffed with cheese, bean, and pork fillings. The group’s third day begins with adventure at Albania Labyrinth, a cypress tree maze which is the largest maze in El Salvador. While at this popular attraction, travelers can try El Salvador’s highest swing and try out the country’s longest toboggan if they’re feeling daring. The group will unwind at Los Chorros de la Calera, a gorgeous nature preserve where travelers can have a refreshing swim and admire the cascading waterfalls. For a final treat, the group will travel west to the Pacific coast for a full day to relish in a restful beach day or take a surf lesson.
